01 · The real problem

Why paying a big page so often brings no sales

You found a page with 300,000 followers. You paid, sent the product and waited. The post went up at midnight, between a comedy skit and a betting advert. The likes came, then a few fire emojis. Then nothing. No orders, no enquiries, and when you asked what happened, you got another screenshot of the views. That money could have bought stock or paid a salary. Many business owners have paid for this lesson at least once.

A true story from Sweden, one from Lagos, and a test you can run today

Filip Tysander put $15,000 into a watch company and refused to pay for traditional adverts, Bloomberg reported. Instead, Daniel Wellington worked with thousands of bloggers and influencers, and gave watches away to people with loyal followings.

The deals were small. One creator with 318,000 Instagram followers was paid a few hundred dollars for a campaign that ran for weeks. But there were thousands of them, all showing the same watch on real wrists. In 2014, the company sold more than a million watches and took in $70 million.

Closer to home, Funke Akindele did something similar for her film A Tribe Called Judah. Skits, interviews, celebrity endorsements, cinema visits with influencers. It became the first Nollywood film to gross more than ₦1 billion, in three weeks.

Neither success came from influencers alone. A good product, the right timing and plenty of other marketing mattered too. But neither of them bought one big post and hoped. They used many trusted voices, again and again, until the product was everywhere their buyers looked.

We saw the same thing with Arya Marketplace in Lagos. Paying Facebook group admins to share posts brought no sales at all. So we switched to influencers, chosen for who follows them, not how many.

So the problem is rarely the creator alone. It is how the deal was chosen, planned and measured. The page is big, but its followers live in the wrong country, or were bought. Nobody agreed what the creator would say, when, or how sales would be counted. The offer was unclear, or nobody answered the DMs that came in. So when nothing happens, nobody can tell why.

So try this today. Open the last influencer post you paid for. Count the comments that ask a real question, like price, size or delivery. Then ask yourself: how many orders came from it, and how do you know?

Three mistakes that waste influencer budgets

These are the problems we see most often when brands come to us after a campaign that did not work.

Mistake 01

Choosing by follower count

A big number feels safe. But bigger pages often get lower engagement, and many big audiences live in the wrong place for your business.

Fix: pick by audience fit
Mistake 02

Nothing in writing

No agreed post dates, no approvals, no usage rights and full payment upfront. Posts go up late, off-message or not at all.

Fix: a clear agreement
Mistake 03

No way to count sales

Without a code or link for each creator, every result is a guess, and you re-book the wrong people next time.

Fix: a code per creator

Followers are a number. Trust is a relationship, and only trust sells.

That is why Greenlearners Technologies runs every influencer marketing campaign as a system: the right creators, checked audiences, clear agreements and sales counted per creator. Sometimes the answer is one well-matched creator. Sometimes it is twenty small ones. Sometimes it is a creator who makes great videos for your own ads. The aim is never the biggest name you can afford. It is the creators your buyers believe. The free vetting check further down shows how we judge a creator.

02 · How pricing works

Influencer marketing pricing: a quote built around your campaign

There is no honest one-size price for influencer marketing. A nano creator in Ibadan and a macro creator in London charge very different fees, and those fees change with the platform, the season and how long you want to use the content. So tell us what you need. We match the right creators, check their real numbers and send you a clear, written quote before you pay anything.

03 · How it works

What influencer marketing is, and which influencers to use

Influencer marketing is paying or partnering with people who have a trusted audience, so they introduce your brand to the people who listen to them. It is also called social media influencer marketing, influencer advertising or, in Asia, KOL marketing, after “key opinion leaders”. A brand influencer can be a celebrity, a skit maker, a niche expert or one of your own happy customers.

Nano, micro or macro influencer? Smaller often means stronger

Engagement figures are 2024 averages by follower count, from HypeAuditor’s data via Influencer Marketing Hub. They describe one large dataset, not what any single creator will get.

Nano · 1K to 10K

Nano influencer

Close, local and trusted like a friend. About 1.73% engagement on Instagram and 10.3% on TikTok. Small fees, often paid in product.

Best for local trust and testing
Micro · 10K to 50K

Micro influencer

A real niche, like skincare, tech or parenting. About 0.68% on Instagram and 8.7% on TikTok. The sweet spot for most micro influencer marketing.

Best for sales in a niche
Mid-tier · 50K to 500K

Mid-tier influencer

Wider reach with a known voice. About 0.54% on Instagram and 7.5% on TikTok. Good for launches alongside micro creators.

Best for reach with trust
Macro · 500K to 1M

Macro influencer

Big reach, higher fees and more competition for their attention. About 0.61% on Instagram and 7.1% on TikTok.

Best for awareness
Mega · 1M+

Celebrity and mega

Household names. Huge reach, the highest fees and the least control. Worth it for big launches with a big budget behind them.

Best for big moments
UGC creators

Content-only creators

Creators who make videos for your page and ads, not their own. You use their face and voice, with your reach.

Low cost, real reactions

Three influencer facts that changed recently

From the platforms and regulators themselves, with the sources linked. Platform tests are averages, not promises. More numbers like these are in our 169 digital marketing statistics.

19% lowercost per action when campaigns add partnership ads

Meta. In a 2025 test with about 2,400 advertisers, campaigns that added partnership ads, which run from a creator’s own handle, delivered on average 19% lower CPA and 13% higher click-through. Meta says results are not guaranteed. Source.

134% highervideo completion for TikTok Spark Ads

TikTok. In TikTok’s own 2022 test, Spark Ads, which boost a creator’s real post, had a 134% higher completion rate than standard in-feed ads. A good creator video is a ready-made ad. Source.

Oct 2026the UK’s new influencer ad guide

ASA, CAP and CMA. The fourth edition, published 23 October 2026, says labels like #Ad must be clear and upfront, and warns that “sponsored” or “gifted” are not enough. Its bottom line: if in doubt, label it. Source.

Myth check

“Bigger influencers always sell more.”

On Instagram, nano creators averaged 1.73% engagement in 2024 against 0.54% for mid-tier creators, in HypeAuditor’s data. Bigger pages buy you reach. Smaller, well-matched creators usually buy you trust, and trust is what turns into orders.

How to run influencer campaigns on Instagram

Instagram influencer marketing works best with Reels, carousels and Stories from creators whose followers match your buyers. Every paid post should carry Instagram’s “Paid partnership” label, and the best ones can run as partnership ads from the creator’s own handle.

How to run influencer campaigns on TikTok

TikTok influencer marketing can be the quickest way to reach young buyers, in Nigeria and abroad, when the creator truly fits the product. In Dotts Media House’s 2026 Nigeria report, TikTok’s median engagement was 9.2%, against 2.0% on Instagram. Creators must switch on TikTok’s commercial content setting for promotional posts.

How to use YouTube creators for lasting results

A YouTube review keeps selling for years, because people search YouTube before they buy. Gymshark’s founder sent his early products to the YouTubers he admired, and a brand valued at $1.45 billion in 2020 grew around them. Long videos build deep trust; Shorts bring new viewers.

A dedicated review costs more than a mention, but it answers every question a buyer has. For high-value products, it is often worth it.

05 · Strategy

How to run an influencer marketing campaign that sells, in six steps

An influencer marketing strategy is a short written plan: what you want, who you need to reach, which creators can reach them, what they will say, how you will count the results and what you will do with the winners. This is the plan we write before we contact a single creator.

Step 1

One goal, one number

Sales, sign-ups, bookings or reach among your buyers. Pick one, so you can tell which creators delivered it.

Results, not likes
Step 2

Find influencers for your brand

Start with who your customers already follow. Then search hashtags, tagged posts, competitors’ partners and creator marketplaces.

Your buyers point the way
Step 3

Vet every creator

Audience location, several recent posts (not one viral post), comment quality, follower growth and past brand work. Use the free vetting check below before you pay anyone.

Real people only
Step 4

Influencer outreach that gets replies

A short, personal message: why them, what you offer, what you want and when. No copy-and-paste blasts to 200 creators.

Personal beats mass
Step 5

Brief, agree, approve

A brief with the key message and the rules, an agreement with dates, rights and payment, and an approval before anything goes live.

Nothing left to memory
Step 6

Launch, boost and measure

A code or link per creator, the best posts boosted as partnership ads or Spark Ads, and the winners re-booked.

Money follows proof
Influencer marketing for small business

Small budget? Start with nano creators and your own happy customers.

Send your product to ten well-matched nano creators in your city, ask your best customers to post honest reviews, and give each one a code. In a month, you will know which voices sell for you, before you spend real money on anyone bigger.

What changes when your buyers live somewhere else

We do not just swap the currency. Creators, trust and rules change with the market, so each one gets its own creator list.

Nigeria and Africa

Skit makers, TikTok and WhatsApp TVs

Comedy skits, TikTok and WhatsApp Status carry huge local reach. Paid posts need ARCON approval, and buyers want delivery and payment answered in the comments.

Local voices, local rules
The diaspora

Creators the community trusts

Nigerians in London, Houston or Toronto follow creators who share their life abroad. They need extra proof before buying back home: real product, real delivery, real people.

Trust across distance
UK, US and Canada

Strict labels, written rights

The ASA and FTC expect clear ad labels at the start of every paid post. Contracts, usage rights and exclusivity are standard, and creators expect them.

When a creator does not deliver

It happens, even with good creators. A post goes up late, misses the brief, or a product arrives damaged. So before anyone is paid, the agreement says what happens next. Creators are paid in stages, not all upfront. Every post is checked against the brief, with proof kept. The fix is agreed in writing: a corrected post, a new date or a replacement creator. You are never left chasing a creator on your own.

Reach and likes are in every report, but they never decide who gets re-booked. Codes and links count the sales we can trace. Some buyers see a creator and buy without a code, so we also watch your total sales and searches for your brand during the campaign, and put it all next to the orders and enquiries your team confirms.

Plan the campaign. Check the creator. Then pay with confidence.

Three free tools, no sign up. The first suggests a creator mix, platforms and what to measure for your goal. The second checks a creator’s numbers for red flags before you pay. The third checks your campaign against the ten tests we run before any money changes hands. All three run in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us unless you choose to send it.

  • Open the creator’s last 10 posts and work out the average likes, comments and views.
Red flags we always check
  1. Followers from countries you do not sell to.
  2. Engagement far below creators of the same size.
  3. Views that are a tiny share of followers.
  4. Comments with no real questions.
  5. Sudden follower jumps, then flat growth.

No tool can prove that every follower is real. These checks lower the risk; they cannot remove it.

Tool three

Influencer campaign health check: ten tests before you pay

These are the ten checks we run before any money changes hands. Answer honestly. “Not sure” counts as a gap, because if nobody knows, nobody is checking.

  1. The campaign has one clear goal and one number to judge it by
  2. Each creator’s audience lives where your buyers live, and you have seen proof
  3. Every creator has been checked for bought followers and fake comments
  4. Posts, dates, approvals and payment are agreed in writing
  5. Every paid post will be clearly labelled as an ad, at the start
  6. Each creator has their own code or tagged link
  7. Creators get a brief with the key message, not a script to read
  8. You know where and for how long you can reuse their content
  9. Country rules are covered, like ARCON approval in Nigeria
  10. Creators have agreed you can boost their posts as ads
A self-check, not legal advice. When the rules matter, we check them for the country each campaign runs in.

08 · Real, labelled, yours

Real creators, clear ad labels and content you own

Influencer marketing works because people trust the creator. Break that trust with a hidden ad or a fake audience, and you lose more than one campaign. This is how we keep every campaign honest, legal and yours.

What gets brands in trouble

Paid posts with no “Ad” label, or a label hidden at the end
Creators with bought followers, likes or comment pods
Scripts that make claims the product cannot prove
Paying in full upfront with nothing in writing
Reusing a creator’s video in ads without the rights to do it
Fake reviews written by staff, friends or paid strangers

In the US, the FTC says disclosures must be hard to miss, not hidden in a bio or behind “more”, and free products count as payment. In the UK, the new influencer guide says “if in doubt, label it”.

How we keep it right

Every creator vetted with audience screenshots from the app itself
Clear ad labels and the platform’s paid partnership tag on every paid post
Written agreements for posts, dates, approvals, rights and payment
Claims checked before posting, extra carefully for health, money and food
Approvals planned where a country asks for them, like ARCON in Nigeria
Creators paid fairly and on time, so they want to work with you again

In Nigeria, ARCON says influencers and content creators must get prior approval before publishing adverts. Instagram uses a “Paid partnership” label and TikTok a commercial content setting. We check the rules for each country a campaign runs in and plan approvals into the timeline.

Your content. Your creator list. Your results.

Paying for a post does not automatically let you use it in your ads. So every agreement we sign for you spells it out: reposting on your own pages, running it as an ad, boosting it from the creator’s handle as a partnership ad or Spark Ad, editing and cutting it down, which countries, for how long, any exclusivity from your competitors, music rights, and what happens if the creator deletes the post.

The creators who worked well, their contact details and their results go into your own creator list, not ours. If we ever stop working together, you keep the content, the rights you paid for and every relationship we built.

09 · Proof

A creator can introduce you to thousands of people who trust them. What happens next depends on your product, your price and how you treat those people. You deserve to hear the limits first.

Influencer marketing cannot

Promise a viral post or an exact number of sales
Make people want a product that does not work for them
Close sales if nobody answers the DMs and calls that follow
Turn one post into lasting trust. That takes repeat creators
Guarantee what a creator posts outside your campaign
Replace your own content, reviews and customer service

Creators bring people to the door. Our social media, WhatsApp marketing, email marketing and conversion teams make sure the door opens.

We are probably not right for you if

You want paid posts without an ad label
You choose creators by follower count alone
You want creators to read a script word for word
You want claims your product cannot back up
You will not pay creators on the agreed dates
You expect one post to fix slow sales on its own

If you want to learn it yourself first, start with our digital marketing course.

The people

Meet the people who run your creator campaigns

Creators trust people, not platforms. Your strategist picks the creators and the plan, your content manager writes the brief and checks every post, and your account manager handles the creators day to day. The founder signs off the creator list. Meet the whole team.

How we think about marketing

For us at Greenlearners Technologies, marketing is getting the right product or service to the right person, at the right time, through the right channel, with the right message.

Questions people ask

Influencer marketing: your questions, answered

What is influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing is partnering with people who have a trusted audience, so they introduce your brand to the people who listen to them. It is also called social media influencer marketing, social influencer marketing or influencer advertising. Done well, it works like word of mouth at scale: a creator people trust shows your product in real use, and their followers come to you.

What does an influencer marketing agency do?

An influencer marketing agency, or influencer agency, plans the campaign, finds and vets the right creators, handles outreach and negotiation, writes briefs and contracts, checks every post, makes sure ads are labelled, boosts the best posts and reports the sales each creator brought. Greenlearners Technologies works for brands, so our job is to protect your money and your reputation, not to sell you whoever is on a list.

How much does influencer marketing cost?

It depends on the creators, the platforms, how many posts and videos you need, how long you want to reuse the content and how much management you want. A nano creator may work for a free product, while a celebrity can cost more than a whole micro creator campaign. Fees also change often. That is why we do not publish one price: send us your brief, and we send a written quote with creator fees, content, rights and our fee shown separately.

What is the difference between nano, micro and macro influencers?

It is mostly audience size. Influencer Marketing Hub groups creators as nano (1,000 to 10,000 followers), micro (10,000 to 50,000), mid-tier (50,000 to 500,000), macro (500,000 to 1 million) and mega (over 1 million). Smaller creators usually get higher engagement: in HypeAuditor’s 2024 data, nano creators averaged 1.73% on Instagram and 10.3% on TikTok. Bigger creators bring reach, smaller ones usually bring trust.

Is micro influencer marketing better than using celebrities?

For most sales goals, yes. Micro influencer marketing spreads your budget across many trusted voices in a niche, so you can see who sells and re-book them. Celebrities are worth it for big launches and brand moments, when reach matters more than cost per sale. Many of our campaigns use both: micro creators for trust, one bigger name for reach.

How do I find influencers for my brand?

Start with who your customers already follow: ask them, and look at who tags your products. Then search hashtags, look at your competitors’ partners and use creator marketplaces like TikTok One. Influencer lists and influencer search engines help, but always vet each name yourself. As your influencer marketing agency, we build a shortlist for every client and check each creator’s audience before you see their name.

How do I check if an influencer has fake followers?

Ask for audience screenshots from the app itself, dated this week, showing country, age and gender. Then compare likes, comments and views with the follower count across several recent posts, read the last 30 comments for real questions, and look for sudden jumps in followers. Our free vetting check on this page flags the most common red flags in a minute, and influencer analytics tools do this at scale. Be honest about the limits: no tool can prove every follower is real. Good checks lower the risk; they cannot remove it.

What should an influencer campaign brief include?

The goal, the product and why it matters to the creator’s audience, the key message, what must not be said, the offer and code, the call to action, the dates, the ad labels required and how approval works. Leave the creative to the creator. A brief that reads like a script produces content that sounds like an advert, and audiences skip it.

What should an influencer contract include?

The posts and formats, the dates, the approval process, the ad labels, how and when payment is made, what happens if a post is late or missed, usage rights for your own ads and website, how long those rights last, any exclusivity from competitors, and permission to boost the post as a partnership ad or Spark Ad. We put all of this in writing for every creator.

What will my influencer marketing quote include?

Every cost on its own line: creator fees, content and production, usage rights and exclusivity, products and delivery to creators, any ad spend to boost the best posts, platform or payment fees, our management fee and VAT where it applies. You see the creators, what each one will make and what you can do with the content, before you approve anything. Our growth plans show how influencer work fits with ads, content and a website.

What happens if an influencer does not deliver?

Before anyone is paid, the agreement says what happens if a post is late, misses the brief or a product arrives damaged. Creators are paid in stages, not all upfront, every post is checked against the brief and proof is kept. The fix is agreed in writing: a corrected post, a new date or a replacement creator. You are never left chasing a creator on your own.

How do you measure influencer marketing results?

We give every creator their own discount code and tagged link, so orders, sign-ups and bookings can be traced back to them. Then we report sales per creator, cost per sale, reach among your buyers and engagement, and compare them with the sales your team confirms. Not every sale uses a code, so we also watch total sales and branded searches during the campaign. Our analytics tracking setup makes this possible.

What is KOL marketing?

KOL stands for key opinion leader. KOL marketing is the term used in China and much of Asia for influencer marketing, often with more emphasis on experts and respected professionals, like doctors, analysts or industry leaders. A KOL influencer is someone whose opinion carries authority in a field. In B2B, this is often the most valuable kind of influence.

Should I use an influencer marketing platform or an agency?

An influencer marketing platform helps your own team find, contact and pay creators. It suits brands with time and staff to run campaigns. An agency does the work for you: strategy, vetting, contracts, approvals, tracking and reporting. A platform charges its subscription whether or not a campaign works, and your team still does the work. If you want results without building a team, an agency is usually the faster start.

What do GRIN, Upfluence and Modash cost?

On their own sites in October 2026, GRIN listed a free plan, then 200, 500 and 1,500 dollars a month. Modash started at 199 dollars a month with a 14-day free trial. Upfluence pricing was a custom quote after a demo, on yearly plans. Aspire, Klear by Meltwater and indaHash showed demo or quote only. Prices change often, so check each platform before you sign.

What is the Amazon Influencer Program?

The Amazon Influencer Program is for creators, not brands. It lets creators with a qualifying YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest or Facebook account set up an Amazon storefront and earn commission on qualifying purchases. Brands that sell on Shopify can run their own creator and affiliate programme with Shopify Collabs, which is free to install and tracks sales by creator.

Do you run TikTok influencer marketing?

Yes. TikTok can be a quick way to reach young buyers, in Nigeria and abroad, when the creator fits the product. As a TikTok influencer marketing agency, we find TikTok creators whose audiences match your buyers, brief them to make it their way, make sure the commercial content setting is on, track each creator with a code and boost the best videos as Spark Ads. Our TikTok advertising team runs the ads side.

Do you run Instagram influencer campaigns?

Yes. Instagram influencer marketing works well for fashion, beauty, food, lifestyle and property. As an Instagram influencer agency, we vet creators with Insights screenshots, plan Reels, Stories and carousels, use the Paid partnership label and boost the winners as partnership ads through our Meta ads team. In a 2025 Meta test, campaigns that added partnership ads delivered on average 19% lower cost per action.

Does influencer marketing work for B2B?

Yes, when you pick the right voices. B2B influencer marketing uses respected founders, consultants and experts whose followers are your buyers, mostly on LinkedIn, YouTube and podcasts. LinkedIn lets brands sponsor posts by customers, industry experts and creators with Thought Leader Ads. An expert with a few thousand followers in your exact field can beat a celebrity with millions.

Does influencer marketing work for small businesses?

Yes. Influencer marketing for small business usually starts with nano creators and happy customers, paid in product or small fees, each with their own code. Within a month you learn which voices sell for you, then you put more money behind them. You do not need a celebrity to start.

What is influencer gifting?

Influencer gifting, or product seeding, is sending your product to well-matched creators with no promise of a post. Some post because they love it, and those are the creators you want to work with later. Influencer gifting platforms like Octoly do this at scale. Gifted posts may still need an ad label, because a free product can count as payment under US and UK rules.

What are partnership ads and Spark Ads?

They are influencer ads that run from the creator’s own account. On Instagram and Facebook, partnership ads let you boost a creator’s post with your ad budget. On TikTok, Spark Ads do the same. People see the creator, not a brand advert, which is why these often perform better. The creator has to give permission, so we put it in every contract.

Do influencer posts need to be labelled as ads?

Yes. In the US, the FTC says disclosures must be hard to miss, and free products count as payment. In the UK, the ASA, CAP and CMA guide published on 23 October 2026 says labels like #Ad must be clear and upfront, and that words like sponsored or gifted are not enough. Instagram’s Paid partnership label and TikTok’s commercial content setting should also be used. When in doubt, label it. This is not legal advice.

Do influencer adverts need ARCON approval in Nigeria?

ARCON, the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, has said that influencers and content creators must get prior approval before publishing adverts, and that unapproved adverts can face sanctions. We plan approval into the timeline for campaigns running in Nigeria. Rules change, so we check them for each campaign. This is not legal advice.

Are you an influencer talent agency? Can creators work with you?

We are an influencer marketing agency for brands, not a talent agency that manages creators’ careers. But we work with many creators, and we are always looking for honest ones. If you are a creator, send us your pages, niche and audience screenshots on WhatsApp. When a brand campaign fits your audience, we will reach out. We never charge creators to join.

How long does an influencer campaign take?

Most campaigns take about two weeks to plan, shortlist, agree and brief, then run for two to eight weeks. In Nigeria, allow time for ARCON approval. Ambassador programmes run for months, because repeated posts from the same creator build more trust than one post. We agree the timeline in the quote.

Who owns the content influencers make?

The creator usually owns their content, and you pay for the right to use it. Every agreement we write says where you can reuse it, like your ads, website or page, and for how long. If you want to boost a post or use it in ads for months, that is agreed and priced upfront, never assumed.

Do you work with influencers in Nigeria, the UK and the USA?

Yes. We run influencer marketing for brands in Nigeria and across Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the Netherlands, including Africans in the diaspora selling back home. Each market has its own creators, platforms and ad rules, so each gets its own creator list.

How do I choose the best influencer marketing agency?

Ask five questions. Do you work for me or for the creators on your list? How do you check for fake followers? Will I see each creator’s real audience before I pay? How will you count the sales each creator brings? Who owns the content and the creator relationships afterwards? The best influencer marketing companies answer all five plainly.

How do I get started?

Use the brief builder on this page, or message us on WhatsApp with what you sell, who buys it and what you want the campaign to do. We will suggest the creator mix, check real numbers and send a written quote. Nothing is booked until you approve every creator.
